Hmm.

November 10th, 2009 (05:46 pm)

So, I think most folks on the flist are aware that there's another Fanfic Award thing going around - Words on the Wind. I know zilch about it, I have little to no intention of becoming half as involved as I am/was in the CoT awards, and for me, it's mostly been under the radar.

Today, I got a notification that one of my stories was nominated. So first, thank you to whoever nominated it. I'm very flattered that you remembered the story and took the time to enter it! I don't get many nominations, so I treasure every one of them.

Moving on....I'm not sure I should accept the nomination. The nominated story? Is the remix I wrote a few months ago. Specifically, Finding Rose (The Forty-three Days Remix) from the [info]chips_remixed challenge over the summer. The story is mine - but it's based off something someone else originally wrote.

One could argue that I'm simply describing fanfic in general. Hush, you.

So I'm not exactly sure this is something I should accept, and I remember this seemed to be a discussion a while back. (Or maybe this was strictly among the mods at CoT, I can't remember.) Should an author be nominated for a remixed fic? Is it fair to the author of the original fic on which it was based?

Hence...poll. What thinketh you, flist? Do I accept the nomination or not? Mind, I don't have a CLUE what category it's in, although I suppose I should find out.

Poll #1483634
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All, participants: 15

Should I accept the nomination?

Fic: The Imagination of Gaston Leroux (9/10)

November 4th, 2009 (07:25 am)

Title: The Imagination of Gaston Leroux (9/10)
Rating: PG
Characters: Nine, Rose, Jack, Ten, Jack (yes, twice), assorted others

Summary: Actresses disappear from the stage, the manager is strangely tight-lipped, and there’s an oddly knowledgeable woman in an apricot dress running here and there. Not to mention the overly enthusiastic journalist lurking in the shadows. Will the Doctor and his companions solve the mystery at the Opera Garnier – or will the story be forever changed?

A/N: A sort-of crossover with Gaston Leroux’s The Phantom of the Opera, written for [info]momdaegmorgan. I say “sort-of” because while those who have read the book or seen the movie or heard the music may recognize certain things, it’s not quite a crossover in the classic definition of the genre.

Having just seen SJA episodes five and six (those would be the one with the Doctor), I have only this to ask:

Minor Spoilers. Or major, depending on how you look at it. )

Today's Nano Word count: 0. Yup, that would be correct, not one word. I have been either goofing off or completely productive on the non-writer front, depending on how you look at it. I've made banana bread, chocolate & pepper cookies, cheese blintzes, purchased a non-stick 8" crepe pan for the cheese blintzes (I made crepes! From scratch! It was way fun), mailed two boxes (well, one box and one tube, really), and nearly completed a cross-stitch key-chain. And swept and cleared out the cobwebs forming on the porch. I also discovered two dead crickets, recognizing Cleo as a mighty huntress, and bringing her Confirmed Cricket Kill Count to Three.

Odd rejection in yesterday's mail. This place sent my query letter back to me. I can't decide if that's just what they do, or if it's supposed to me, "Egad, woman, you write so badly we don't even want to contaminate our recycling bin with your disgusting query letter."

Fic: The Locked Room (1/1)

October 31st, 2009 (08:35 am)

Title: The Locked Room (1/1)
Author: [info]azriona
Characters: Nine, Rose
Rating: PG13

Summary: There was a door on the TARDIS that would not open. Rose went by it every day, and wondered what went on behind it.

A/N: This was my entry for [info]writerinatardis Challenge 2.03. The prompt was: The Doctor has a strange, unusual, or very silly hobby. Rose just found out about it. I went....perhaps a little darker than most. Okay, a lot darker.

But dark and spooky are appropriate today.

Happy Halloween!

I have twelve blank bookmarks ready to be prepped before stitching. Three will turn into the bookmarks for the September Support Stacie auction. The other nine, however, have a more uncertain future. They'll either be held for future, unknown bookmarking....

Or they'll be turned into bookmarks for the November Auction.

Which leads me to my dilemma. See, starting in early November, I make fudge. Mountains of fudge. POUNDS AND POUNDS of fudge. I make fudge like MAD, and then mail it out like madder. This means a lot of my free time is spent making fudge...and not cross-stitching.

Therefore, my thought is to get some bookmarks done BEFORE the November auction, and use those finished works instead of a pick-your-own. The only problem is....what to stitch?

So...a little help would be appreciated. What should I stitch? Which characters would you guys like to see in bookmark form? Most importantly - which characters will make you bid bid bid?

I just have to post really quickly before running out the door (because I thought I was meeting people for dinner at seven, not six - or in other words, in 20 minutes and I still have to get to Tenleytown...)----

THANK YOU.

I know we shouldn't be taking the bids personally. It's not about us, it's about Stacie. But all the same...I was having something of a dismal day. And I thought, I should check my email before I head out to dinner.

The Edward or Bella Cullen bookmark is going for $25 (to a DW fan, even - Twilight hasn't started fighting back yet).

The Pick-a-Doctor bookmark is going for $30.

But the Not-the-Doctor bookmark?

The Not-the-Doctor bookmark is going for $50.

I don't know what to say. I really, really don't. I had no idea - I seriously thought when these hit $25, that'd be it.

Wow. Just...wow.

Thank you, guys. I don't even know what to say, but thank you for both me, and for Stacie. Thank you.

Art! Art! Art!

September 13th, 2009 (06:55 am)

Photobucket

Good morning, chickadees. Time for the September Support Stacie Auction Art Round-up!

In the beginning, there was man. And then there was cave drawings. And it was good.

A little bit later, someone invented fabric and floss, with which woman invented cross-stitch. And it was better.

Some time after that, television was invented, specifically to show a British sci-fi show called Doctor Who. This was generally accepted as awesome.

After a bit, there were computers, with which people created computer-based art. Socks were mainly rocked from this time on.

The current Art Auction Totals as of Sunday Morning:

[info]alizarin_skies's hand-drawn fanart is going for $50.

[info]mitashade's icon/banner/wallpaper set is going for $75.

[info]alizarin_skies's icon/banner/wallpaper set is going for $46.

[info]swankkat's fanart is going for $100.

And lastly but certainly not leastly....

My Not-The-Doctor bookmark is going for $18. NOPE! Just now, someone raised the bid to $25!

My Name-Your-Doctor bookmark is going for $25.

And, in a sad commentary....the fandom whose canon is primarily books....is still only bidding $5 on an Edward or Bella Cullen bookmark. I find this incredibly ironic. If anyone would like to go and taunt them (I kind of think me doing so would be bad form), please, feel free.

Or, you know, bid on it and threaten to make me turn it into a DW bookmark instead. I'm good with that.

Well, the bidding is on, and the bookmarks are doing pretty well for early in the process....

The Pick-A-Doctor bookmark is going to [info]hazelwho for $16. YAY, HAZEL! BEAT BACK THAT WIGGIE-MOMSTER!

The Not-the-Doctor bookmark is currently going to [info]wiggiemomsi for $10.

Sadly, no one has started bidding on Edward or Bella Cullen. But then, the Twilight fandom looks like it was very quiet last night. At least half the auctions don't have ANY bids in them at all, so it's not just me. Odd, for a book about vampires that don't sleep. Maybe the start time was past their bedtimes?

Not Just Another Auction!

September 11th, 2009 (06:38 am)

Photobucket

Yes, yes, we all know - to Support Stacie this weekend, you bid on fic.

Aren't you TIRED of fic? Doesn't the thought of ONE MORE FIC just make you sigh and moan and reach for something else?

Like, say, a BOOK?

WELL, FRIENDS, I HAVE THE SOLUTION FOR YOU.

Who needs fic, when you've got books? And you know what you need when you have books?

That's right! BOOKMARKS.

Yes, that's right - you can have you very own Doctor Who bookmark, with whichever Doctor or character you like. I'm offering two bookmarks now (and very likely more in the next auction, if this goes well), in two separate auctions. The winner gets to decide which character I stitch for them.

You can bid on the bookmark with your choice of Doctor here....

or you can bid on the bookmark with your choice of companion or other character (NOT the Doctor) here.

And just to make sure it's clear - I will cover all shipping and handling charges, to anywhere in the world.

Want to see a sample of the bookmarks? )

And just because I found some sparkly floss at the craft store last week...I'm also offering a bookmark in the Twilight fandom. You can bid to have your very own Edward or Bella Cullen in bookmark form.

So don't just fall in with the regular crowd! Be bold. Be different. Be CREATIVE.

You know you want a Doctor Who bookmark, don't you????

Happy Bidding!
